How to engage with the map?
Hover over the different geopoints onto the map to be able to listen to the stories of Filipino immigrants across North America.
This map was inspired by the Migrant Death Map, analysing the Precarity, Violence, and Disregard for Migrant Life in Singapore.
The Story Behind the Map
This was a project initiated alongside the creation of the INAY (MAMA) documentary. While Thea Loo explored Jeremiah and Shirley’s connection with their mothers in the documentary, she was inspired to develop a raw platform where the stories of Filipino OFWs across North America are told.
Listen to the stories of seven Filipinos that have migrated or whose parents have migrated to North America in the search of new opportunities. For most, a difficult decision had been made to be separated from their family members. Most also migrated for the purpose of better healthcare and job opportunities.
Listen and reflect on their different experiences, colors and reasons.
